Middle School Handball




Grades 5 - 8 enjoyed their unit on Team Handball! 

At the end of the unit we had tournament play games 5th vs 6th and 7th vs 8th. 




























Early Childhood Music

 


The winter months bring chants, songs and games about snowmen, icicles and all things winter. 
The children enjoyed listening to Vivaldi's Four Seasons:Winter and moving creatively to the music. 
Our Pre-K and Kindergarten are learning the concepts of beat and rhythm and how they are different.  They have been practicing keeping the beat to various styles of music. 


Nursery 2 had fun singing and acting out the song A Chubby Little Snowman.




Nursery 3 is recognizing slow and fast tempos with The Snail and the Mouse chant.



The Pre-K enjoyed finding and keeping  the macro and micro beat to 


 Kindergarten enjoyed listening to Winter from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and moving creatively to the beat with scarves.



Winter Blues?

Sing and dance them away!

Did you know, like exercise, singing and dancing releases endorphins which are a natural mood booster?  So if the winter blahs are getting you down, turn on your favorite playlist and sing and dance them away.

Native Indigenous Peoples Month

Grade 3 learned a Native American Indian Song entitled the No-Otz Hand clapping song.

The song is from the Cherokee Nation. They added a drum ostinato to accompany the singing.

 

They also learned a song entitled the "Canoe Song" where they

incorporated various Orff and Percussion instruments.

A Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration

Grade 1 Celebrated Martin Luther King with the song "There Was A Man."

and Rise Up with Jack Hartmann

Grade 2 celebrated Martin Luther King Day with this song entitled "Sing About Martin"

They added percussion instruments after learning the melody.


Then they were up and moving to this spirited, upbeat 
version of a song entitled, "I Believe in Martin". 


Grade 4 celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with this stick routine to the song:

"He Had A Dream"

January Art Classes

 



Pre Kindergarten students created beautiful snowflakes
 with lots of fun collage materials including glitter!



Kindergarten students drew self portraits 
wearing matching hats and mittens.



First Graders painted Winter Trees.



Second Graders are exploring value, 
using tints of one color to paint snowmen.



Third Graders created symmetrical designs
 using snowflake patterns.



Fifth Grades created life size portraits 
in the style of artist Keith Haring.



Seventh Graders are painting and decorating 
their letter sculptures.

 Happy New Year from the Music Classes!

Grade 1 Celebrated La Fiesta de los Tres Reyes

The Feast of the Three Kings

They learned songs about the Magi and collaborated in pairs and trios

to create their own miniature manger scenes.







Grade 3: Combining Music and Math 

They learned songs about all types of lines:

horizontal, vertical, diagonal, geometric, spiral, organic, zig-zag,

 parallel, intersecting, and perpendicular.

Then they created their own montage and depictions 

using all of the lines they learned to draw. 


Grade 6: Salsa Music with Percussion Instruments

Grade 6 started the New Year off  learning about Salsa music 

while sharpening their conga and bongo skills. 



Grade 7: Bucket Drumming

7th graders continue to work on their rhythmic skills. 

Here they demonstrate their ability to play different 

rhythmic patterns simultaneously.

Grade 1: Songs about Animals

Grade 1 is focusing on songs with animals.

Here they are learning to echo on pitch 

while singing and dancing to the song

"Going On A Bear Hunt".
